Laughing at his life

SHOPPING for baby shoes and driving around Manchester are not the most obvious places to come up with comedy material. But it seems to work for Yorkshireman Alun Cochrane, who takes the mundane and turns it into something extra funny. The comedian has just finished a run at the Edinburgh Festival with his show - Alun Cochrane is a Daydreamer (at Night) - and it arrives at Cheltenham Town Hall on Tuesday.

Alun is a grand master at observational comedy and there is not much that goes unnoticed when he's out and about.

"I get my inspiration from everywhere and anywhere," he says. "I'm constantly on the hunt for material, anything can lead to it - shopping for baby shoes, just driving around or walking past someone in the street can end up in the show.

"In fact, all of those things made it in. The big challenge is making sure it's funny."

Alun lives in Manchester with his wife and two-year-old son - hence the baby clothes shopping. "He gets a mention in the show, it's natural," Alun MiuMiu Replica Handbags says. "I'm one of the few comics to bring some loving to parenthood. "Most say babies are rubbish but it's a great thing, we don't have to be so negative." Alun's already got plenty of fans and is getting spotted even more since appearing on TV shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

"I was a bit more recognised this year in Edinburgh than in previous years," he admits.

"I've done several full-length solo shows since 2004 but this was the first year
