FROM the glamorous stiletto, to the homely fluffy slippers - whoever they belong to, they have died at the hands of the person who claimed to love them.
As part of Domestic Abuse Awareness Week members of SEEDS (Survivors Empowering and Educating Domestic Abuse Services) placed 104 pairs of shoes at a stand in Drake Circus mall to illustrate the number of women murdered by violent partners and ex-partners each year Dimmable LED Down Light K1004 - 3x1W / 3x3W in England and Wales.
In addition, SEEDS members, who act as an advice group to the many services offered in the city to victims of domestic abuse, laid out 230 toys to represent the average number of domestic violence incidents reported to the police in Plymouth each month, where children were present at the time of the abuse.
Christian Dior FakeKerry Whincup, SEEDS co-ordinator, said: "Lots of people came forward and commented on how shocking the statistics are and how powerful the message was with just shoes and toys. We must thank St Luke's Hospice, who provided many of the shoes and toys, who will benefit from all of them once we've finished with them. We also want to thank Drake Circus for their support and help."
One SEEDS member, who asked not to be named, said the mixture of shoes, from stilettos to orthopaedic shoes, tap shoes to flipflops,
embroidered patches highlighted how prevalent the issue was, regardless of age, class or background.
She said: "We have gorgeous shoes that the singer Rihanna would wear, down to the housewife's slippers - because domestic abuse affects all types of women, of all ages, from all walks of life. One woman who came up said it all looked so normal, but when it was explained to her she said it was a powerful message. She said it was horrifying to think that this was a secret that people didn't want to hear."
